SUSAN ELMBLAD RUBIN
Contemporary Botanical Art

I like plants...all of them. They clean the air, feed our families, bring us joy, and soften the edges of a hard world.
I am drawn to the recurring patterns and wild anomalies that occur within the botanical realm.

I specialize in drawing in graphite and colored pencil. I am interested in botanical art and illustration as a dynamic

and evolving art genre. As a teacher of botanical art and illustration in the Denver Botanic Gardens Certificate Program,

I try to convey an appreciation for both the scientific and artistic aspects of the discipline. As an exhibiting artist,

I push the boundaries of traditional botanical art with less conventional media, scale, and composition. I always try to

look beyond the obvious and to present a fresh view of the flora that surround and sustain us.
